The
special ones Young at Heart
We don't doubt for one
minute that God has a special place in His heart for the elderly within
our community. Sadly, in this day and age, many of the older folk
get a bit of a raw deal.
After years of working,
bringing up children and making a home they can be left vulnerable,
lonely, isolated and on the poverty trail. Once the chicks have
left the nest to create their own lives many wonder about their
continued purpose.
Not so, though, at the
RESPECT Over 60's club! They are the cheekiest people you'll ever
meet, full of beans and with a great social life. They may only
come to us for an afternoon a week, have a few trips a year and an
annual
holiday, but real friendships have formed and many of them go around
together to other clubs.
Lynn Warelow runs the club
and says, " We try our best to keep a very varied programme. I
struggle to keep up with some of our 80 year olds. Some are so
energetic."
The afternoon is started
with drinks and cake as people arrive. They have a football
pontoon and raffle to help raise funds. The main activity can
consist of almost anything: e.g. Who wants to be a Millionaire, arty
stuff, visitors and singers. More drinks followed by a
few games of bingo.
All birthdays are
celebrated with a party, depending on age and the group like to go out to
eat. If you would like to be an active person, make friends in a
warm environment with very little cost, then please come along or contact
Lynn.
We have our own minibus so
can pick you up and drop you home if you live in the HU6 area
